Wirefish is a drag-and-drop wiring CAD program built for small to medium sized boats. Document your electrical and NMEA 2000 systems on your current boat, for a refit, or for new boat. Drag and drop premade components such as batteries, buses, NMEA 2000 backbone tees, ethernet wires and everything in-between. Save, export and print your system.

WHAT'S INSIDE

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO DOCUMENT YOUR CURRENT BOAT, PLAN A REFIT, OR BUILD A NEW BOAT ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Drag, drop, done

Easy to use premade components to drop into your project, or create your own.

Four kinds of runs

AC/DC wire, NMEA 2000 cable, coax, and ethernet cables built in to easily design wire runs — all with 45/90° snap and bend points.

The Wirefish toolbar: Select, Wire, NMEA 2000, Ethernet, Coax, Shapes and Pan tools, with the 45/90° snap toggle and zoom control.

NMEA 2000 native

Backbone tees, terminators, power drops and an 0183 to 2000 gateway. Change color of tees to match your current brand cables.

Shapes & callouts

Shapes tool allows you to make your own components and callouts.

Edit in groups

Box-select and move parts, wires and notes as one or duplicate a whole circuit at once.

Undo, redo, autosave

Ctrl+Z reverses anything, and autosave restores your session if Wirefish closes unexpectedly.

Engineering-grade PDF export

Any sheet from A4 to A1 with an editable title block — to a print-ready PDF.

Ink-saver style

One click redraws everything as black & white line-work for cheap printing.

Installs like real software

A proper Windows app with a Start Menu entry and a desktop icon. No account, no internet needed, nothing phoning home. Projects are portable files you own.

NMEA 2000 network

Draw your NMEA 2000 backbone

Drop cables, power tees and terminators are all included — drag and drop to design your NMEA 2000 system.

Backbone, tees & drops

Multiple port tees with brand color identification is built in.

Drop cables, three grades

Lite, Mid and Heavy

Terminators & connectors

120Ω male/female terminators and field-attachable connectors.

NMEA 0183 bridge

An 0183↔2000 gateway plus a pre-labeled crossover block.

Built-in design assistant

Backbone checklist, cable specs and a voltage-drop check.

Load & LEN budgeting

Tally device LEN against your power-tee placement.

Wirefish NMEA 2000 Design Assistant: automatic checks against the NMEA 0400 topology limits, showing a failed terminator check and passes for node count, power insertion, backbone length, longest drop and cumulative drops.
The assistant reads your drawing and checks it against the NMEA 0400 limits — terminators, node count, power insertion, backbone length and drop lengths. Here it has caught a missing second terminator. Cable specs, a voltage-drop calculator and the reference tables sit behind the other tabs, and any tab prints.
Component library

OVER 50 PREMADE COMMON MARINE COMPONENTS

Easy to recognize components to drag and drop onto your drawing. If you don't see it listed, there is an option to make custom components. A black and white line only mode is also available for every component.

Bill of materials

Every part and every cable, counted for you

Wirefish reads the finished drawing and totals it — so the buy list and the wire order come out of the diagram itself instead of a second spreadsheet you have to keep in step.

Wirefish Bill of Materials: 15 components, 19 cable runs and 7 NMEA 2000 LEN, with components grouped under Power & Distribution and a quantity, category, tag and notes column for each.
Parts are grouped into the aisle you would actually order them from, with quantities, your own tags and a notes column. Change a category or add a note and it sticks to the drawing.
Wirefish cable and wire schedule: DC wire and NMEA 2000 runs grouped by gauge and color, each with a run count and a total length shown in both metres and feet.
The cable schedule totals every run by gauge and color in metres and feet — and tells you plainly when a run still has no length set, so nothing is quietly missing from the total.

Print it as a clean data sheet with your own title block, or export CSV straight into a quote.

Print & export

A drawing you can hand to someone

Set the sheet size, fill in the title block and watch the page build as you type. What you see in the preview is what comes out of the printer.

Questions

FAQ

How do I install it?

After purchase you download one installer and run it. Wirefish lands in your Start Menu with a desktop icon, the same as any other Windows program — no admin rights needed. It runs entirely offline, so it is right at home on a boat laptop with no signal.

Is this a subscription?

No. One payment, one license, yours forever. Updates within the 1.x series are free.

What kinds of systems can I diagram?

DC power (batteries, selector switches, ACRs, alternators, solar/MPPT, chargers, inverters), NMEA 2000 networks (backbone, tees, drops, MFDs, GPS, AIS, radar, transducers, autopilot), NMEA 0183 equipment via the gateway and crossover terminal block, Ethernet runs, engines, comms (VHF), pumps, lights, float switches, relays, cameras, and more. You can rename and recolor any part, so it flexes to whatever's on your boat.

Can I print my diagrams?

Yes — Export PDF lets you choose the paper size (A4–A1, Letter, Tabloid, ANSI C/D) and orientation, and edit the engineering title block — heading, drawn by, drawing number, revision, date — before it builds a print-ready PDF. An ink-saver black & white style prints the whole drawing as line-work with colors spelled out as labels. Save/Open also gives you a portable project file (JSON) so you can revise the diagram any time.

What does it run on?

Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. Wirefish is a Windows desktop application — there is no Mac or Linux version today. A mouse or trackpad is the most comfortable way to draw wires.

Is this a substitute for a marine electrician?

Wirefish is a planning and documentation tool. It makes your intent unmistakable on paper, but sizing, overcurrent protection, and installation should always follow ABYC standards — when in doubt, have a certified tech review your plan.

About us

Veteran owned, built in Washington State

Wirefish is a veteran-owned business based in Washington State. The software is written, tested and supported here — it is not white-labelled, resold, or built offshore.

It exists because documenting a boat's electrical system should not mean fighting general-purpose drawing software that has never heard of a bus bar, a terminal fuse or an NMEA 2000 backbone. Every component, every check and every printed sheet in Wirefish was made for that one job.
